The IoPPN is one of the top places in the world for research in psychosis by citations and high impact publications, and SLaM is one of the largest mental health trusts in the UK.

The School of Academic Psychiatry is?housed in the main IoPPN building on DeCrespigny Park, opened in 1967. The School is closely entwined with the National Health Service with each of the departments allied to its equivalent clinical academic group in the??South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust?in order to facilitate translation of research into clinical care.

The School of Academic Psychiatry teaches scientists and clinical practitioners. Each department offers PhD studentships and run a variety of Masters courses and other training programmes. The School also hosts numerous conferences, events and public debates.

Uniquely the School has a special role in the postgraduate training of doctors to become qualified psychiatrists, in partnership with allied NHS Trusts, but also by contributing to the medical curriculum at King’s College London, equipping all doctors with some knowledge and skills relevant to mental health.

About the role

A vacancy has arisen for an academic consultant psychiatrist with expertise in psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and related disorders). The post is full-time (9am-5pm, Monday to Friday). The role involves 5 clinical sessions as a consultant psychiatrist at the Croydon Early Intervention Service, South London and Maudsley (SLaM) NHS Foundation Trust and 5 sessions delivering research and teaching within the School of Academic Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London.

The role involves conducting cutting edge research in psychosis, delivering high quality clinical care to people with psychosis and providing excellent education around psychosis. You will be responsible for developing research ideas, obtaining funding to conduct studies and publishing high impact research publications, as well as providing teaching on psychosis to post-graduate and under-graduate courses, supervising student projects and contributing to departmental activities. As a consultant psychiatrist, you will provide excellent clinical care to patients with psychosis, actively participate in the multi- disciplinary team, supervise junior staff, act as the responsible clinician and undertake mental health act assessments, and participate in audit and service development.

We seek a successful candidate who is considerate, has strong interpersonal skills and who will champion an inclusive working environment.? About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and registered as a Specialist in Psychiatry on GMC Specialist Register with a valid licence to practice, or eligible for inclusion at this level
	Research degree (PhD/ MD) or equivalent training and experience
	Membership of the Royal College Of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with RCPsych Guidelines) and Section 12(2) and approved clinician approval or eligible for this.
	Knowledge of the use of evidence-based interventions for psychosis and experience of delivering a high quality clinical service for psychotic disorders, including knowledge of and skills in clinical risk assessment and management
	Skills in fostering an inclusive environment that values a diversity in perspectives and approaches and commitment to developing user-focused services
	Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team and provide leadership to a team
	Research experience in relevant field as evidenced by publications in high quality journals, presentations at conferences, patents, obtaining research funding, and potential to become a leader in the field?
	Experience in delivering teaching and/or training in psychiatry
	Experience of conducting audit and/or quality improvement projects
	Adaptable, able to travel within the community catchment and comply with Trust Occupational Health Guidelines


Desirable criteria


	Previous experience in early intervention in psychosis, particularly in the community
	Excellence in mentoring and developing junior staff and research students
	Organisation of teaching or training courses
	Ability to network across different teams and organisations

The postholder is responsible for teaching and developing curriculum in Contemporary Dance Technique and other courses at all levels and for choreographing work for student productions for the Academy's performances as well as for tours. He/She is also responsible for providing administrative support to the Head of Contemporary Dance by assisting in the planning, scheduling, curriculum development, staff development, assessment, and evaluation of all aspects of the contemporary dance programme.

	Advanced-level academic qualifications in dance studies (preferably with a postgraduate qualification); and a minimum of five years' experience in teaching in contemporary dance, including teaching at University and Master’s level.
	Proven experience in administrative/management of contemporary dance or equivalent.

	Demonstrated commitment to the scholarship of learning and teaching, as well as practice-based research.
	Dedication to the integration of theory and practice within curriculum content and employing innovative teaching practices, including e-learning.

Desirable Criteria 


	Experience of/teaching in a multi-cultural context.

Those with lower qualification or less experience may be considered for appointment at Lecturer grade.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT 

Appointment will be on a two-year contract. Renewal of contract is subject to work performance. A gratuity payment equals up to 15% of the total basic salary earned during the contract period may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract period. The amount of gratuity payable will be the sum which, when added to the Academy’s contribution to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, equals 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period. Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Non-accountable Cash Allowance will be provided to the eligible appointee at Senior Lecturer grade. The current standard rate of income tax in Hong Kong is 15%.

The Advanced Materials and Building Efficiency Research Laboratory (AMBER Lab) in the Division?of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a post-doctoral associate to work?on various research projects on developing resilient and sustainable construction materials.

The successful candidate will work on advancing the development and characterization of reactive?magnesium oxide cements (RMC) and Engineered Magnesia Composites (EMC) as part of a broader?effort to create sustainable and high-performance construction materials. Building on recent insights?into the hydration and carbonation reaction pathways of RMC, the Postdoctoral Associate will lead?efforts to enhance the performance of EMCs, focusing on the optimization of phase formation,?mechanical properties, and durability. The candidate will also be responsible for the development and?testing of high-performance concrete systems, such as Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC),?using RMC as a complete replacement for Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) without supplementary?binders. The successful applicant will contribute to a multidisciplinary research environment,?collaborating with PhD-level scientists, and graduate and undergraduate students. The candidate will?utilize state-of-the-art characterization techniques, including in-situ Transmission Electron?Microscopy (TEM) with specialized gas cells, Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), X-ray Diffraction?(XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The role will involve analyzing reaction?pathways, improving material formulations, and testing composite performance to advance the?development of sustainable construction materials.

Applicants must have:


	Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from a reputable university.
	Expertise in the development, characterization, and performance assessment of RMC and EMC.
	Experience with advanced experimental techniques, including in-situ TEM with gas cells, TGA, XRD, SEM, calorimetry, and corrosion tests.
	Proficiency in the design, fabrication, and performance testing of cementitious composites, particularly ECC.
	Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.


The responsibilities are:


	Performing assigned research projects.
	Mentoring undergraduate and graduate research assistants.
	Leading the authorship of journal publications and project reports.
	Drafting future research proposals.
