The appointment would start on 1 September 2025 or as soon as possible afterwards, and it is intended to grow our research portfolio and enhance our curriculum of research-led education to benefit from recent developments in Mathematical Sciences. This opportunity arises following a significant investment by the University of Southampton to address foundational issues in Data Science with applications to AI and Sustainability. You will be passionate about research and education and will be looking for an opportunity to take your research to the next level in an area that extends the existing research expertise within the School. You will have the opportunity to set the research agenda, establish and lead a research group, and collaborate with colleagues across the School and the University. This appointment is a part of our focussed strategic investment into the computational and theoretical aspects of mathematical modelling and data science. It is intended to enhance and intersect with our diverse research interests, which are represented by world leading research groups in Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Physics (Gravity, String Theory, Mathematical Modelling), Statistics, Operational Research, and Pure Mathematics. The remit of this position is intentionally broad, and includes gravitational-wave data analysis, large-scale numerical relativity, quantum information, applications of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to theoretical physics and string theory, uncertainty quantification, topological methods, optimisation, Li-ion battery modelling, energy systems modelling.?

The School of Mathematical Sciences brings together a unique range of disciplines across Mathematical Sciences and is committed to tackling the world’s biggest challenges through interdisciplinary research. About the opportunity

Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Education is seeking an Associate Professor in Education. You will actively contribute to the Faculty through student centred teaching practice and development in Education, Childhood Studies, or Early Childhood Education and Care, with a focus on the neuroscience of brain development in children. In this role you will also contribute to the research and scholarship of the teaching profile through publication and relevant community engagement.? Your core responsibilities will include:


	Deliver inter-disciplinary teaching to small groups (up to 6) of students and one-on-one teaching
	Supervise, mentor and develop students on placement and support their placement supervisors
	Build and maintain strong partnerships with local health service providers to negotiate placements for students
	Community engagement by way of offering services to local schools e.g. student involvement in sessions about health-related topics such as healthy eating, and hand hygiene, etc.


About you

You will be passionate about student teaching and supporting student learning and have a keen interest in education research. More specifically, you will have:


	PhD or Professional Doctorate in Primary, Education, Childhood Studies, Early Years (0-8 years), or a relevant discipline, alongside an initial teacher education degree.
	Established national or international research record in early childhood education, with publications in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals, successful ARC or equivalent grant applications, and timely HDR completions.
	Evidence of high-quality teaching outcomes, including leadership in course design and development, and demonstrated intellectual leadership in guiding and developing others.
	Strong teamwork, communication, and conflict resolution skills, alongside active participation in professional practice, staff development, and community engagement, with a commitment to cultural diversity, equity, and WHS principles


Salary and benefits

	Academic Level D. The base salary ranges from $161,784 - $177,948 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $208,199.

The role

The Director of School Operations will lead in delivering all administrative operations in the School to ensure the effective management of non-academic colleagues and resources, and to underpin the work of the Dean and Heads of Department in aligning the newly-created School to the University’s ambitious 2030 strategy.

About the Chemical & Biochemical Sciences Green Process Engineering (CBS)

The Chemical & Biochemical Sciences Green Process Engineering Department (CBS) is a component of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). The main objective of CBS is to set up a distinctive research-teaching program, of international level, to meet the research and teaching challenges of UM6P, in particular on green and environmental chemistry applied to all aspects of chemical sciences: organic, polymer, and inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, catalysis, chemical biology, biochemical and thermal reactions.

Research at CBS is organized around several major areas, which aim to answer challenging industrial questions, from complex chemical and biochemical reactions to scale-up and validation of process engineering. CBS projects aim at an in-depth understanding of the molecular mechanisms of all transformations in order to propose new original alternatives in terms of efficiency, environmental friendliness and sustainability.

Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to develop eco-friendly coating materials for controlled and sustained nutrient release, aiming to reduce losses due to leaching and volatilization while enhancing fertilizer uptake by plants. This research aligns with a sustainability-driven approach, minimizing environmental impact and promoting more efficient and resource-conscious agricultural practices. The selected candidate will focus on the synthesis and characterization of biodegradable polymers for fertilizer coatings, emphasizing the use of hydroxylated vegetable oils as macro-initiators in ring-opening polymerization reactions to ensure industrial applicability. Additionally, the researcher will work on the catalytic modification of vegetable oils, particularly through reductive hydroformylation, to tailor their chemical properties for improved performance in polymer synthesis and coating applications. This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of an interdisciplinary research environment, collaborating with experts in materials chemistry, polymer science, and agricultural technologies, with access to cutting-edge facilities and the potential to make significant contributions to sustainable agriculture.
Responsibilities:


	Design, synthesize, and characterize biodegradable polymers for controlled-release fertilizer coatings.
	Conduct catalytic modification of vegetable oils, particularly through reductive hydroformylation, to optimize their properties for polymer synthesis.
	Develop and optimize open-air ring-opening polymerization reactions using hydroxylated vegetable oils as macro-initiators to ensure industrial viability.
	Perform structural, thermal, and mechanical characterization of the synthesized materials using advanced analytical techniques (e.g., FTIR, NMR, SEC, TGA, DSC, SEM…).
	Assess the efficiency of coated fertilizers in controlled nutrient release, stability, and environmental impact through laboratory and greenhouse experiments.
	Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including experts in materials chemistry, polymer science, and agricultural technologies, and contribute to project meetings, reports, and publications.
	Prepare reports and high-quality research papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences and seminars.


Candidate Criteria


	PhD in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Green Chemistry, or a related field.
	Strong experience in polymer synthesis, particularly in biodegradable or bio-based polymers. Knowledge of polymerization techniques, including ring-opening polymerization and step-growth polymerization.
	Expertise in the catalytic modification of vegetable oils, especially reductive hydroformylation, is highly desirable.
	Proficiency in advanced analytical techniques such as FTIR, NMR (?H, ??C, ?D), SEC, TGA, DSC, SEM, and rheology for material characterization.
	Ability to work at the intersection of polymer chemistry, materials science, and agricultural technologies. Experience in controlled-release systems is a plus.
	strong analytical and critical thinking skills to develop innovative and sustainable solutions.
	Proven ability to publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.
	Experience working in interdisciplinary and international teams, with excellent teamwork and project management skills.
	A good level of English (written and spoken) is required; knowledge of French or other languages is an advantage.
