The mission of the Centre for English and Additional Languages (CEAL) at Lingnan University is to enhance the English language skills of Lingnan students and to provide language support to help students succeed in their academic studies and future careers.? The Centre provides compulsory and elective English courses as well as organising a range of co-curricular language activities. CEAL also offers courses in additional languages such as Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and French.

General Requirements

Lingnan University is looking for a well-qualified language specialist to head the CEAL. Applicants for the position should demonstrate excellence in teaching as well as having a proven record of curriculum/course development, delivery and assessment. Extensive management experience in a university English language centre or similar environment is desirable. S/he will have a PhD in English language (preferably Applied Linguistics) or a related area, a minimum of five years’ administrative experience, ten years of teaching experience in university English, and a track record of research and publication in language learning and teaching. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor of Teaching.

Job Description:?

The Alliance School of Design invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Animation. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced educator with a strong portfolio in animation and a deep understanding of its theoretical and historical contexts. The role involves teaching undergraduate and potentially postgraduate students, contributing to curriculum development, engaging in research and scholarly activities, and participating in the academic life of the School and University.?

Responsibilities:?

The candidate should be proficient in all or some of the following areas:?


	Develop and deliver engaging and theoretically informed lectures, tutorials, and practical workshops in various areas of animation, with a particular focus on 2D classical animation (both on paper and digital), 3D animation using Blender, storytelling principles, and animation/film theory and history.?
	Supervise student projects, providing constructive feedback and guidance to foster their creative and technical development.?
	Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of the Animation programme curriculum, ensuring its relevance to current industry standards and pedagogical best practices.?
	Assess student work fairly and effectively, providing timely and meaningful feedback.?

Qualifications and Experience:?


	A Master's degree (for Assistant Professor) or a PhD/Doctorate (for Associate Professor) in Animation, Film Studies, or a closely related field. Candidates with exceptional professional experience and a Bachelor's degree may also be considered for adjunct or visiting faculty positions.?
	A strong portfolio demonstrating significant experience and expertise in 2D classical animation (both traditional and digital techniques), and 3D animation using Blender.?
	A thorough understanding of storytelling principles and their application in animation.?
	A comprehensive knowledge of animation and film theory, history, and critical analysis.?
	Proven ability to teach effectively at the university level, with excellent communication and presentation skills.?
	For Associate Professor positions, a demonstrated track record of scholarly activity (e.g., publications, conference presentations, creative works) and academic leadership.?
	Experience in curriculum development and assessment is desirable.?
	Familiarity with other animation software and techniques would be an advantage.?

	2D Classical Animation: Proven expertise in traditional hand-drawn animation techniques and digital 2D animation workflows (e.g., using software like TVPaint, Adobe Animate, Toon Boom Harmony).?
	3D Animation (Blender): Strong proficiency in all aspects of 3D production pipeline of animation using Blender, including modelling, rigging, animation, texturing, lighting, and rendering.?
	Storytelling: A deep understanding of narrative structure, character development, pacing, visual storytelling, and screenwriting for animation.?
	Animation/Film Theory and History: Comprehensive knowledge of key theoretical frameworks, historical movements, influential figures, and critical approaches to animation and film.?

The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) at New York University Abu Dhabi invites applicants to apply for the open Postdoc position in the Project Collaborative Multi-Robot Swarms in Unknown Environments.

CAIR invites qualified applicants with a doctorate degree in the areas of electrical, or computer, or mechanical engineering, or related field to apply. A strong publication record is encouraged and previous experience in areas such as Distributed control and optimization, Swarms, Autonomous Robots, Embedded systems development, Collaborative and adversarial control, and Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) is desired. The position is open to PhDs with background in robotics, controls, AI, and/or computer vision. The candidate is expected to work in a highly collaborative multi-disciplinary environment with other post-doctoral associates, PhD and undergraduate students, as well as faculty members. It is expected that applicants have a strong publication record in the aforementioned areas. The applicants are also expected to have strong analytical, communication, and writing skills.

The successful applicant will work on several projects including development of distributed multi-agent autonomous systems and related technologies. This will include development of distributed monitoring algorithms enabling agents in a multi-agent swarm to autonomously locate other agents in its neighborhood, analyze their behavior, and probabilistically predict future motions/behaviors. As part of this work, the successful applicant will work on sensor data processing and data fusion, dynamics modeling and estimation, multi-agent collaboration algorithms, and inter-agent distributed introspection of agent behaviors to detect behavioral modifications (e.g., due to malfunctions and/or attackers). The algorithmic development will need to take into account various uncertainties and possible adversarial elements wherein some agents in a swarm have been modified by an adversary. The work will include algorithm design, prototype implementation (e.g., in Matlab/Python), deployment (to the agents’ autopilots using the Robot Operating System), and experimental testing (on unmanned vehicle swarms).

A solid competency with the standard implementation tools used in autonomous robots and embedded systems (e.g., C, C++, Linux, MATLAB, Python, Robot Operating System, Ardupilot, Solidworks, Gazebo Physics Engine Simulator) is required.

The Department of History is seeking to hire two Research Assistant Professors or Research Associate Professors in digital humanities. Area of specialization is entirely open. The appointees will contribute, in terms of teaching and administration, to the department’s new Master of Arts program in ‘Digital History in Global Asia,’ set to launch in the academic year 2024-25. Candidates with expertise in digital methods for historical analysis, as well as knowledge and practical skills in using digital applications for research and pedagogy, will have an advantage. Proficiency in one or more of the following digital applications/skills will also be advantageous: QGIS (Geographic Information System), Gephi, Tableau, Excel, SketchUp and Visual Novel (3D rendering and visual storytelling), Python, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and AntConc. Candidates with expertise in the latest development in the field of digital history, with specialization in any period or region of the history of Asia and/or global or transnational history are especially encouraged to apply.

The appointees are expected to conduct research, publish scholarly outputs in international journals and/or with leading publishers, and apply for competitive grants administered by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong. They will teach courses in their areas of specialty (typically two to four courses per academic year, subject to mutual agreement) and are required to advise capstone projects in the new MA program. The appointees will also assume key roles in the administration of the new MA programme and the Department of History at large. The appointees may also be considered to serve as the Director of the new MA programme.

General Requirements

The applicants should have a PhD degree in history, digital humanities, or a relevant discipline by the time of appointment in August of 2024. Appointment at the associate level (i.e., Research Associate Professor) is possible, if the candidate has five or more years of relevant experience. Relevant teaching experience and a good research record are essential. Experience in curricular design will be an advantage. The appointee should have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and services to the Department and the University community, and to engage actively in quality research and publication.
