The Role - Waste and Recycling Operative

We are currently seeking a permanent, full time Waste and Recycling Operative to carry out cleaning, recycling and waste duties both internally and externally at our halls of residence sites.

The role involves emptying, collecting, transporting and sorting of general waste and recyclable materials to agreed time scales and the use of external cleaning equipment such as a jet washer and Leaf blower. Driving is required to move waste and recycling to bin compounds and subsequently the successful candidate must hold a valid driving license.

This post will be based at one of our Halls of Residence within Southampton; you might be expected to work from multiple halls locations at times if required.

The UQ-Springfield City Industry Chair in Energy (known locally as Professor/ Industry Professor in Energy) will be primarily responsible for developing and building relationships with both industry and community partners in Springfield. We are seeking a highly accomplished research leader and engager to develop and lead a sustainable program of applied and translational engineering research in the application of big energy data and AI applied to Distributed Energy Resources Management. The Industry Chair in Energy will provide senior leadership with a strategic vision for developing and implementing research strategies, building research capability and capacity, and demonstrating impact. They will also play a key role in turning the proposal of the Living Laboratory into a reality, making strides toward the development and implementation of the Laboratory in Springfield. This is an exciting career opportunity which will see the Industry Chair recruit and build a team of research fellows and research higher degree students, as well as embed research within community energy generation, storage and usage management and contributing towards net zero goal.

The successful candidate will be offered a Level E appointment within the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, working in close collaboration with researchers in the Power, Energy and Control Engineering Discipline, while contributing more broadly to the goals and objectives of the School, Faculty and University. The ideal candidate's pedagogy will be informed by both a broad knowledge of ceramics and sculptural practice (which could include installation, environmental art, new media, and/or social practice). Essential Responsibilities Include: Ability to teach undergraduate ceramic and sculpture students applied lessons at all levels. Responsible for studio maintenance and supervision of the ceramics/woodshop facilities. Work closely with faculty and staff on the maintenance of classrooms and purchasing. Work with VISU faculty and the Environmental, Health, & Safety Coordinator maintain safety procedures and policies for classrooms and equipment. Mentor work study students to work in the woodshop and clay studio. Serve as academic advisor and creative mentor to a diverse body of students.
