Main tasks of the trainee:?

We are seeking a dedicated and organized trainee to assist with the arrangements for an international assessment panel visit. As a trainee, you will work as a project group member in the UH Research Assessment Office. The project group includes a Project Manager and a Senior Advisor.

The Position

We now invite applications for appointment as Professor/Associate Professor in Developmental Psychology in the Faculty of Education. ?

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will be closely affiliated with the Early Childhood Development and Education area.? He/She will be expected to develop and sustain an active and productive research programme, demonstrated by publications in prestigious outlets and awards of external funding, and contribute to leading the development of vibrant teaching programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. ?The appointee will mentor and nurture the next generation of scholars and researchers, supervise research postgraduate students, engage in collaborative research, develop and maintain positive relations with relevant community outreach organizations, and assume high-level service/administrative responsibilities.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should possess (i) a Ph.D. degree in Developmental Psychology or a closely related field, with expertise in early language, cognitive, and/or social-emotional development, professional development of early years and primary school educators, the measurement of early childhood development and learning, the role of family, school, community and global and technological contexts in early childhood development, or other related areas; (ii) a distinguished record of scholarship and research, including an established track record in publications and external grant funding; (iii) experience in advising students at various levels; (iv) outstanding academic leadership capabilities; (v) a strong commitment to mentoring early career researchers; and (vi) evidence of community engagement. ?Preference will be given to those with experience in or commitment to working with cross-disciplinary research teams.?

What We Offer

Outstanding candidates may be considered for appointment on tenure terms and to commence as soon as possible.? The appointment for tenure track will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 3 years initially, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of the second three-year fixed-term contract.

Project Manager (at the rank of Senior Research Assistant) in the Advanced Technologies Institute at Department of Data and Systems Engineering (to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance).

About the position

The Centre for Research on Addiction, Control and Governance?is a research centre at the Faculty of Social Sciences, discipline of sociology. We study addictions from a sociological perspective, focusing on four research areas:


	Addiction: Behaviours, concepts and theories
	Legal control and policies of gambling, alcohol and drugs
	Commercial operators and marketing of alcohol and gambling products 4. The welfare state and its social and healthcare systems


The trainee will be working in one of our several interesting and on-going gambling-related projects. Depending on the preferences and skills of the trainee, they will focus on one research area and produce a report of the results. The report can be further developed into a published research article with the support of CEACG researchers. The trainee will gain experience from quantitative or qualitative research methods, research writing process, and gambling research topics. Depending on the interests of the trainee, they can also contribute to the social media and other communications of the research centre, administrative tasks, etc.

Possible research projects in which the trainee can take part:
-??? Quantitative research project: If you are interested in developing your quantitative research skills, we have interesting datasets on treatment-seekers or a population-level sample. Your research project can focus on analyzing these datasets from the perspective of gambling consumption and gambling-related harms.
-??? Qualitative research project: If you are interested in conducting qualitative research, you could take part in an international comparative project related to gambling advertising and its regulation in different countries. The aim of this project is to produce policy advice to the Finnish gambling regulation reform. ?

The person we are looking for

-??? Skills in quantitative methods, and interest in developing them further
-??? Skills in different languages in case of mainly qualitative research background -??? Interest in research and publishing research results
-??? Interest in sociology of addictions, specifically questions related to gambling

We are ideally looking for someone with an interest in research, motivation to develop their research methodological skills, and willingness to publish their research results. We would prefer a trainee with skills and an interest in quantitative methods. However, it is also possible to work with qualitative methods in this traineeship. In this case, we would particularly appreciate linguistic skills besides English. We are looking for a student in social sciences, but we would give precedence to anyone interested in addiction and gambling-related themes. Good communication skills and an ability to work at the city centre campus are appreciated.
