Rodney Bickerstaffe has been elected general secretary of Unison. Mr Bickerstaffe, who has been an associate general secretary of the union since July 1993, won 151,893 votes in a membership ballot for the general secretary post.
He will take office on February 28 next year, when the current general secretary, Alan Jinkinson, retires.
