The merger of two higher education institutions has resulted in a single institution with a new name. Following the merger of Trinity College, Carmarthen, and the University of Wales Lampeter in Ceredigion, which joined forces in December last year, the institution will now be known as the University of Wales Trinity St David's. The decision to merge was made by governors at Trinity College and Lampeter, which is one of the oldest higher education institutions in the UK, after a report was commissioned to explore the benefits of closer ties. Medwin Hughes, principal of Trinity College, will lead the new university.
