London University's Birkbeck College has withdrawn an equal opportunities statement in its media studies course material after the Freedom Association complained it smacked of "Orwellian thought control". A college spokesman said the policy was the same as at other universities. "This was a statement made by one member of staff on one course out of hundreds of courses. It was a mistake and we have withdrawn it."
