The SmithKline Beecham Foundation Prize, awarded biennially by the British Pharmacological Society for research, has been presented to David Webb, director of the clinical research centre which is part of the university's department of medicine.

UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL

The 1994 Performing Rights Society John Lennon award, for a year's full-time postgraduate study at the university's Institute of Popular Music has been presented to composer and musician, Gary McGuinness.
